Refrigerators within a mile of the ocean age differently. The marine layer that rolls up from PCH carries salt, and salt finds condenser coils. The fix is unglamorous but real. An annual coil cleaning and fan inspection runs far less than a compressor, and near the water we recommend it every twelve months without exception. If your unit runs constantly, cycles loudly, or the cabinet sides feel hot, the coil is usually where we start.

These are not appliances you slide out and swap. A Sub-Zero BI-36U weighs several hundred pounds and is scribed into cabinetry; diagnosing it in place is a skill, and we’ve spent fourteen years building it. As homes lost in the January 2025 fire are rebuilt, brand-new units are arriving by the truckload, and new does not mean trouble-free: sealed systems damaged in shipping, water lines never flushed before the first ice batch, doors racked during a tight garage carry, builder-grade packages installed without proper clearances.
